Diffusion weighted MR finding of hemichorea-hemiballism associated with hyperglycemia: A case report

Abstract

|
There are many reports of hyperglycemia provoking hemichorea-hemiballism with characteristic brain imaging on MRI. However, the diffusion weighted(DW) MRI of previously reported cases demonstrated high signal intensity or normal finding.A 62-year-old woman was admitted for sudden onset of abnormal movement on the left side. Twenty days before admission, hemichorea-hemiballism had developed suddenly. The DW imaging showed low signal intensities in the right striatum.We report a different DWI finding in patient with hyperglycemic hemichorea-hemiballism.
